Skopje - NATO said yesterday guerrillas in Macedonia had handed in almost half their declared arsenal but suspicion about the price for peace grew as local media said the nation could wind up a partitioned protectorate.

The guerrillas, who agreed to trade guns for reforms, had surrendered 44 per cent of their admitted stockpile of 3,300 weapons as of Saturday, a NATO spokesman said.
