Aer Rianta has secured a temporary High Court injunction until today restraining a number of taxi-drivers or others from blocking entrances to and exits from Dublin Airport, including the nearby roundabout at Corballis House.

In an affidavit, Ms Marie Walsh, legal affairs manager with Aer Rianta, said access to the main terminal building was from the Corballis House roundabout, at the junction of West Link Road and Corballis Road South. About 36 taxis were placed yesterday at that roundabout. Another blockade of about 47 taxis was at the junction of Corballis Road South and Old Swords Road.

Cars and buses seeking to access the main terminal building must pass through the Corballis Road roundabout. While at the time of the swearing of the affidavit there was no blockade at the large roundabout at the main entrance to the airport, vehicles entering the airport at that entrance met a blockade at the Corballis House roundabout.

Vehicles carrying passengers to the airport had been forced to leave them up to a 30minute walk from the building. Ms Walsh said Aer Rianta had had to open the exits to the multi-storey/long-term car-park on West Link Road to enable vehicles which managed to get through the traffic and around the roundabout at Corballis House to enter the car-park. This had led to enormous disruption.

Taxis were outside the departure area but were not prepared to take passengers. Buses could not access this area as a result of the roundabout blockade. Aer Rianta staff were also experiencing long delays in getting to work.
