The RAF Red Arrows display team, which was due to perform at the Salthill Air Show in Galway this weekend, is among the many groups to extend condolences to the families of the four Air Corps crew.

The Salthill show on Sunday has been cancelled as a mark of respect. Mr Brian McGrath, the Salthill festival organiser, said that deepest sympathies were extended to the families.

The four men who died had participated in the annual air show on Galway Bay at least twice before, to his knowledge.

Fishing industry representatives around the coastline have also extended sympathy to the bereaved. The Irish South and West Fishermen's Organisation (IS&WFO) sent a message to the Air Corps and to the Minister for Defence, Mr Smith, and the Minister for Natural Resources, Dr Woods, yesterday. Mr Donal O'Driscoll, chairman of the IS&WFO, said it was a terrible loss and everyone was shocked by the circumstances.
