Accenture, the world's largest management and technology consulting firm, has announced that it is to expand its Irish operation, and employ an additional 150 people by the end of this year.

The company, formerly known as Andersen Consulting, already employs 800 people here and the new jobs will be in Accenture's operations in Dublin.

The company said the new jobs will cover a broad range of areas, including software development, web services, business process, IT outsourcing and application management.

The announcement was made by the Tanaiste, Ms Harney who is visiting Chicago, where she met with senior Accenture management.

"The company's decision to further expand its Irish operations fully reinforces our attractiveness as a key location for major high quality investors," the Tanaiste said.

"In the face of continued economic uncertainty, companies must make sound and pragmatic decisions when it comes to growing their businesses," Ms Harney continued. "Clearly Accenture has taken the decision that Ireland is a location where they see potential for growth."
