£8,000 award for fall into hole

A woman who fell into a hole outside her house during the laying of gas pipes was awarded £8,000 yesterday in Dublin Circuit Civil Court.

Ms Martina Cody, of Dorney Court, Shankill, Co Dublin, sued Bord Gais and Chatham Pipelines over the accident, which occurred on the night of June 21st, 1992. Judge Dominic Lynch noted that the plaintiff had suffered leg and back injuries and said the defendants had failed to take proper precautions. However, he held Ms Cody 33 per cent liable and reduced the general damages of £12,000 accordingly.
