Bogota - At least 50 people were killed yesterday after left-wing Colombian rebels attacked the north-western town of Taraza, said the town's mayor, speaking from outside the town.

FARC rebels attacked the town with gunfire and domestic gas canisters packed with explosives, Mayor Miguel Angel Gomez told radio Caracol.
