Addis Ababa - Ethiopia said yesterday that it had killed, wounded or captured more than 45,000 Eritrean troops and destroyed 77 tanks in border battles since February 23rd. Ethiopia's assessment of Eritrean losses in the latest fighting between the two Horn of Africa countries gave no figures for its own losses.
Eritrea says it accepts an Organisation of African Unity plan and has called for an immediate ceasefire, but Ethiopia says Eritrea must first withdraw its forces from all occupied territory.
