A Cork man who robbed one shop and tried to rob another with a toy gun was given a 4 1/2 year sentence by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

Eugene Griffin (25), of Churchfield Gardens, Cork, admitted stealing £260 from, shopkeeper Mr Con O'Leary at Gurranabraher Road and the attempted robbery at R and M Stores, Ballymacthomas Street, minutes later on September 9th last.

Griffin had a number of previous convictions and had been released from prison only weeks before the case.
