Zamboanga - A total of 37 Muslim rebels have been killed in two days of heavy fighting in the southern Philippines, according to radio messages the military said it had intercepted.

Fighting has been raging since Thursday, when Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels ambushed an army patrol in a village near Tipo-Tipo, killing two soldiers and wounding 13 others.
