Freetown - A court martial in Sierra Leone yesterday sentenced 34 soldiers to death on treason charges, for their role in a May 1997 coup and a military junta that supplanted elected President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, witnesses said.

They were arrested after a West African intervention force restored Mr Kabbah to power in March.
