Geneva - The UN human rights office yesterday said that more than 2,000 mostly unarmed civilians had been killed in Rwanda during army sweeps in May and June and urged the government to put an end to the excessive use of force by troops.

The office said at least 2,022 people had been killed during military operations in Ruhengeri, a predominantly Hutu north-western region. - (Reuter)
