19 candidates for presidency

GROZNY - Nineteen candidates, including several senior separatists, have registered to run for the presidency in polls in Chechnya next month, the electoral commission said yesterday. Separatist candidates include "President" Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, the coalition premier and former armed forces chief, Mr Aslan Maskhadov, and the former warlord, Mr Shamil Basayev. The parliamentary and presidential polls in Chechnya are set for January 27th.
