Lisbon - Just three weeks after a busload of 60 day-trippers disappeared over the edge of a collapsed bridge into the river Douro, 14 pilgrims were killed in Portugal at the weekend as a coach fell down a 100-ft precipice beside a notoriously dangerous road. The accident at Vimeiro, 135 miles north of Lisbon, was further proof of the disastrous state of Portuguese roads

The victims had been on a pilgrimage to the Marian shrine at Fatima. Witnesses said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle in torrential rain.
