£1,000 for nurse in bias case

A nurse has received £1,000 compensation in a gender discrimination case

A nurse has received £1,000 compensation in a gender discrimination case. The Office of the Director of Equality Investigations found Clonmel Healthcare discriminated against Ms Majella McDonald during a job interview during which she claimed she was asked about her children and who would care for them if she had to work overnight. The successful candidate for the job was another female applicant.

The office ruled it was understandable Ms McDonald would feel uneasy about questions concerning her children when a similar question would not have been asked to a male or single female applicant.
