Wines of the week

Franz Haas Pinot Bianco 2006, Trentino Alto Adige, 13%, €18.99

Franz Haas Pinot Bianco 2006, Trentino Alto Adige, 13%, €18.99.A very classy fresh, crisp, dry white, with great intensity and length, showing some citrus and rich peaches, set off nicely by subtle almond notes. This would go perfectly with white fish – maybe hake or sole – baked or grilled. Stockists: Jus de Vine, Portmarnock; Fallon and Byrne, Exchequer Street; Donnybrook Fair; Red Island Wine, Skerries; Avoca Handweavers; The Wine Boutique, Ringsend; The Corkscrew, Dublin 2; Cases Wine Warehouse, Galway; Red Nose Wines, Clonmel.

Berry Brothers' Own Selection Mosel Riesling Kabinett 2007, 9.5%, €12.95. Delicious light fresh wine, with wonderful crisp acidity – you hardly notice the slight sweetness; this is all limes and lemons with a few Granny Smiths thrown in for good measure. Wait for a nice sunny day, and sit on the patio with a bottle of this to hand. Stockists: Berry Bros Rudd, Harry Street, Dublin 2.

Chanson Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2007, 12.5%, €15.99. The lighter red Burgundies, such as this one, are great summer wines, perfect for drinking alongside white meats and more full-flavoured fish, such as salmon and tuna. Serve cool rather than chilled, to emphasise the tangy redcurrant and cherry fruits. Stockist: O'Briens.

Alfinus Monsant Old Vines Garnacha, Catalonia, Spain 2005, 14%, €13.99. This offers power at a competitive price; lovely ripe caramel-coated ripe strawberry and raspberry fruits, with a real punch coming through on the finish. Try with a chargrilled burger, or some spicy minced lamb kebabs. Stockist: Marks Spencer.
