A couple of bottle at a resonable price: Cabriz 2007, Dão and Sá de Baixo 2006, Douro.
Cabriz 2007, Dão, 12.5%, €10.95
A lovely fresh, citrusy, summery white, which would make a great aperitif, while also providing the perfect foil for most seafood, and plainly cooked white fish. The red version is excellent, too. Stockists: Cases Wine Warehouse, Galway; On the Grapevine, Dalkey; Redmond's, Ranelagh; Red Island, Skerries; 64 Wine, Glasthule; Pig & Heifer, Dublin 2; Partridge's, Gorey; Nectar Wines, Sandyford; Power & Smullen, Lucan; McHugh's, Raheny and Artane.
Sá de Baixo 2006, Douro, 13%, €10.95
There are some great wines from the Douro, but most are fairly expensive. The Sá de Baixo is the exception, a delicious rich, rounded red with soft plums and a liberal sprinkle of spice, at a very tasty price. Great with red meats. Stockists: McHugh's, Raheny and Artane; Power & Smullen, Lucan; Redmond's, Ranelagh; Probus Wines, Oughterard; Red Island, Skerries.
