It’s not often that Dublin gets a new fishmongers, but Ahmed Boumoussou (pictured), from a family of fishermen in Agadir in Morocco runs Sea Pearls, a new, Libyan-owned fish shop in Portobello in Dublin.
Ahmed, who also dishes out friendly cooking advice on request, smiles when he talks about the wonderful fish tagines his mother makes at home. On the day of my visit, there was a selection that included farmed whole sea bass, sea bream and gurnard along with fillets of salmon, monkfish, swordfish, tuna, hake, plaice, pangash (from the Netherlands) and shellfish. Business was brisk. Sea Pearls, 22a South Richmond Street, Dublin 2, tel: 01-4789134.
