Helen McAlinden’s lovely shop, No 6 in Castle Market, which closed for renovations recently, has reopened with a bright new look and a new focus on interiors. The shop will not only house Foxford tweeds, bedlinen and rugs, but will also offer an interior design service from designer David Faulkner (who can make curtains etc).

Upstairs there’s an extensive range of fabrics made by Foxford, with room settings showing how they can be used as upholstery or even as wallcovering. The shop also stocks the lovely Swedish range Linum. Outdoor insect repellent candle stands are good buys, from €45 to €140. A star buy is a huge circular lightweight mirror framed in bamboo from Vietnam, selling for €300. McAlinden’s clothing range is housed on the ground floor, along with a busy melange of colourful pottery, candles and home paraphernalia.
