Mazda 6
Always a firm favourite for us, there is a new version coming in March with a cracking 2.2-litre diesel engine, with a choice of 125bhp, 163bhp and 185bhp versions. Hugely refined family car with a brilliant estate model in particular.
Volvo S40
Quite small for this class, but the Volvo feels like an upmarket car and is really well-equipped and comes with some low-emissions engines including a Band B 1.6-litre diesel.
Skoda Superb
Bound to be up near the top in terms of sales in 2009, the vast new Superb is going to be very hard to ignore thanks to its luxury car dimensions and standard equipment. Brilliantly priced and even available with low emissions diesels.
Citroën C5
Irish Car of the Year winner has been the car to boost Citroën's fortunes in Ireland.
This is their best work in some time - refined, comfortable and with the right engines for our market. Touring version deserves singular praise.
Toyota Prius
Helps you do your bit for the environment by driving a Band A family car.
It has low emissions and is big on comfort and standard features. New model coming 2009/2010 will be better looking.
