A small entry in the planning list for South Dublin County Council suggests that Dr Tony Ryan, former boss of Guinness Peat Aviation and founder of Ryanair, is to be honoured in a similar fashion to two other Irish multi-millionaires, Tony O'Reilly and Michael Smurfit.
Dr Smurfit has the Graduate School of Business in Carysfort dedicated in his honour, and Dr O'Reilly has the O'Reilly Hall at UCD. Now a foundation honouring Dr Ryan is planned. The application for permission to build an educational facility is in the names of Mr Cathal Ryan, Mr Declan Ryan and Mr Shane Ryan, sons of Tony, with an address at 9 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
The educational facility, according to the application, will have two lecture theatres accommodating 100 people each and a onestorey block containing reading and meeting areas, seminar rooms, office rooms and canteen, along with underground parking.
The development, to be known as "The Dr Tony Ryan Academy for Entrepreneurship", will be on Lake Drive, at the National Digital Park, in the City West Campus, Dublin 24.
