The single-storey-fronted Victorian houses that line the streets spurring off the town end of Dublin’s South Circular Road are much sought after – and command quite a premium for small townhouses – mainly because of their location and their style.

It’s the front livingroom that usually helps sell these houses because with very high ceilings, a tall sash window and an open fire they give the feeling of a much larger period house. Number 74 Lombard Street West has all this and throughout there are other attractive original features such as cast-iron fireplaces in the two main bedrooms.

The house has been an AirBnB rental for the past few years (€250 a night and, as it happens, excellent reviews) and it is presented for viewing very much in pristine paint condition with the sort of contemporary furniture the new owners are likely to favour – and which has probably helped make it such a hit on the room rental website.

It is for sale through DNG seeking €675,000.

Down a few steps off the fanlight lit hall is the open-plan kitchen and dining room. Also down here is a utility room and a shower room, the house’s only bathroom – which is about the size of a very small en suite – and the first of the three bedrooms. It is very much a small single and would probably work better as a home office. Upstairs there are two fine double bedrooms.

It’s hard to see a new homeowner – in this price range –prepared to live here on a permanent basis with such a small bathroom. Instead they may consider reworking the rear of the house to provide a proper family bathroom.

The house is spread over 90 sq m and the rear patio is south-facing. There is rear pedestrian access which is always very handy in a terrace house when coming and going with bins and bikes. Parking is on street.
