“We spent about nine months putting together a list of the features we wanted with architect Joe McSweeney,” the owner says. And it shows.

Doors lead from the kitchen to a terrace floored in Bosnian marble with glass balustrades and a teak tread staircase that leads down to the garden. Furnished with sun loungers this really is an outdoor room that gets the sun all day.

There are formal interconnecting reception rooms, including a bay-windowed room to the front used as an office, that links to a sitting room to the rear. These rooms have matching marble fireplaces. There is another room at hall level – a formal dining room – a space they don’t use much.
