WHAT CAN WE sell to the Chinese is a question that is occupying many a business in these difficult times, but at least one estate agency thinks it has the answer.

Lisney appointed its first Chinese-speaking negotiator almost a year ago in the hope of attracting some Asian business.

Dandan Zhang is preparing to advise a contingent of Hong Kong-based financiers and bankers who are coming to town shortly to view Kilkea Castle hotel and country club in Co Kildare (see page 1).

The castle has been owned for over 20 years by Dave Conway and his Hong Kong-born wife Tina.

With local buyers largely out of the market for high-value properties – this one is asking a mere €16 million – Lisney is planning to comb not only Asia but also the United States and Europe for a potential buyer for Kilkea Castle which can be bought either as a freehold or as a Hong Kong-registered company.
