Lilac paint brings a touch of summer to south-facing bathroom

ALL HAIL THE new neutral

ALL HAIL THE new neutral. The bathroom of 3 Grosvenor Road is in Beauvais Lilac, by Zoffany, a deliciously light and summery shade, ideal in a south-facing bathroom with its own light source.

Tongue and groove is a really cost-effective way of changing the mood of any room, but particularly the bathroom.

The owners added texture to the space by staggering the height of the panelling. Add the arch around the sink and pale floorboards and you get a real sense of value with a very simple execution.

But the real star of this setting is the paint. This is not the easiest neutral to work with, admits Una Broderick of Charles Newhaven Interiors, (059-9162882). “Beauvais Lilac has a warm earthy base that works very well with off-whites for a light contemporary summer look but also works with rich velvet blues and emerald greens for a more traditional colour choice.”

Be careful when matching with reds as it can tend to bring out a pink hue, she cautions.

Charles Newhaven can deliver Zoffany paint to anywhere in Ireland free of charge. A sample pot costs €8 while 2.5 litres of emulsion is €49.

If trying this at home keep the sanitaryware white and simple. For something similar try the Tebas III sink, about €552, from Porcelanosa (01-458 4976).

A similar ceramic back-to-wall toilet will cost about €945, also from Porcelanosa.
