New Brunswick: from €425,000The first 200 (of a total of 2,000) three and four-bedroom houses, each on a quarter of an acre of land, are being offered to Irish investors in Quintessential, a new resort in New Brunswick, one of Canada's Maritime provinces (it borders Quebec, Nova Scotia, and the state of Maine in the US). Selling agent in Ireland is Ann Collins Property in Athboy, Co Meath.

The houses will cost from €425,000 up to €800,000 for 221-310sq m (2,383- 3,335sq ft) homes and will form part of what aims to be a major 2,800-acre development: located between two of the province's main cities, Moncton and St John, the resort will have a Jack Nicklaus golf course, a conference centre, sports village and spa. Silver Maple Developments, which is building the resort, also has plans to build a "racino" - a horseracing track-cum-casino - and a designer outlet shopping mall.

The people behind Silver Maple are Irishman Declan Campbell and New Brunswick native Sheree King Gillcrist. She describes New Brunswick, which has a population of 750,000 and a wealth of outdoor pursuits, as a friendly place where Irish people will feel welcome. We'd feel particularly at home this week - apparently St John is Canada's most Irish city and they celebrate St Patrick's with a week-long festival.
