Vintage fair and opera in Lismore; results from the salerooms

Chinese blue and white dragon bowl fetches €95,000 at Sheppard’s Irish Auction House

Forthcoming events

The Blackwater Valley Opera Festival is in full flow this weekend with Rossini among the roses at Lismore Castle's lovely gardens, talks and recitals at Cappoquin House, pop-up restaurants and an antiques fair.

L'Italiana in Algeri is one of Rossini's sunniest operas, but if the light-and-shade give-and-take of chamber music is more your thing, you'd do well to check out the festival orchestra's recital tomorrow at noon. It presents a selection of sounds specifically chosen to go with the glorious 18th-century interiors at Cappoquin House.

All this plus a wide selection of antiques and collectibles at the Lismore Antiques and Fine Art Fair, today and tomorrow, 11am to 6pm. Among the 20-plus stands featuring furniture, glass, silver, paintings, jewellery and much, much more you'll find Danker's from Dublin and Catherine Gabbett from Kilkenny. Admission is €3.50 for adults; children go free.
