Auction results Tuesday (August 16th) John Weldon Auctioneers, Cows Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin. Auction of jewellery, gold and silver. A diamond-set bangle, total estimated weight of diamonds 3.30cts, €5,000 (€5,000-€7,000); an emerald and diamond three-stone ring, €3,500 (€3,500-€4,500); a diamond and emerald star brooch, €1,200 (€1,200-€1,800); a pair of silver fighting cockerels, €1,500 (€1,500-€2,500); an Irish silver gilt chalice set with a diamond cross, by William Egan of Cork, hallmarked Dublin 1930, €1,500 (€1,500-€2,500); a silver bugle engraved “Captain Norman Radcliffe Futers 1915-1918”, €1,000 (€800-€1,200); a 100g gold ingot, €4,000 (€4,000-€4,500).

Lot 256 is “a princess cut diamond art deco-inspired ring, set at centre and surrounded by a halo of round brilliant cut diamonds mounted in platinum”, estimated at €3,000-€4,000 and described as “a similar, smaller version of Pippa Middleton’s art-deco inspired ring”. British newspapers last month reported on the engagement of Pippa Middleton (sister of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge) to a hedge-fund manager who, apparently, gave her an art-deco engagement ring featuring an Asscher cut diamond surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds and set in the shape of an octagon, estimated to have cost £200,000.
Saturday (August 27th) O’Donovan and Associates Auctioneers, Newcastle West, Co Limerick. Antiques and house clearances auction at 11am. Includes “a large collection of quality period furniture, cut glass, hallmarked silver, Masons tea services, vintage fine art, and unusual collectibles”.
