THE SHARP discrepancy between the value of houses north and south of the Liffey is underlined by new figures compiled by myhome.ie.

At the moment there are 658 houses asking over €1 million in south Dublin - just over 20 per cent of the total stock in the area. Meanwhile, across north Dublin, there are 248 houses asking over €1 million.

The big difference in prices has always been recognised but it's something of a surprise that so many families with high value homes want to shift them at this time, just when the market is sticking.

Not surprisingly, Wicklow comes next on the list, with 187 properties over the €1 million threshold, followed by Cork with 150 €1 million-plus homes.

Kildare is naturally well up the list with 95 expensive properties, according to myhome.ie, while Meath could only manage about half that figure.

But what's happening in Monaghan - because there are no properties listed for sale on the site at over €1 million. Even Leitrim has managed to figure, with three homes for millionaires.
