CO KILKENNY: €350,000:ONE OF Kilkenny's many substantial mill buildings has come on the market through Savills asking €350,000.

Located eight miles from Kilkenny city on the outskirts of Kells village, Hutchinsons Mill stands in just over an acre of grounds on the Kings river.

Also known as Kells Flour Mill, the building, which dates from around 1800, was once an important employer in the area, supporting much of the agricultural economy of the locality.

The cut-stone 1,170sq m (12,589sq ft) building now needs complete refurbishment and, according to selling agent David Ashmore, it would suit a number of purposes, such as holiday apartments, offices or work-live units that could be powered from the property’s two mill races.

The mill is included in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage carried out by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government which notes that the former flour and corn mill retains its water wheel.

The mill has 13 bays and five storeys, with a single-bay storey at one end.
