THE DEN OF 67 Sandymount Avenue (see page 4) has gallantly survived nearly two decades of constant family use. One of the most hard-wearing aspects of the room is the striped cream ticking used in the bench seating and the curtains which gives the room a nautical edge. Murphy and Sheehy (01-6770316) still stocks the material which ranges from €10.50-€17 a metre, depending on the width.
Both owners are sailing enthusiasts so it's not surprising that the room has a cabin feel.
The walls are painted in Dulux Orchid White, a greeny white that makes a subtle backdrop in a room with lots of pattern and colour and which can look like cream in a certain light.
The red shelving unit supports the seating area and is used as a storage area for cook books. For a similar built-in bench unit contact Perry Delaney (087 3844012).
