"JUDGING by the number of people viewing and attending our auctions, the interest in antiques at present knows no bounds," commented Bryan Greene of Thomas Adams & Co in Blackrock after the company's auction last Tuesday. On this occasion, a Tabriz wool floor rug made the highest price of £2,250, while a Victorian mahogany extending dining table went for £1,200.

Both a matching pair of Victorian walnut, button-back chairs and a composite set of seven fork-back, mahogany dining chairs made the same figure of £1,120 and a Victorian mahogany mirror-backed sideboard fetched £1,040. Other prices included £1,050 for a George III mahogany longcase clock by George Finey of Dublin, £1,000 for a George IV mahogany four-tier whatnot and £800 for an Edwardian Adam-style gilt overmantle.
