THE Poets' House, the poetry tuition centre run by poets James Simmons and Janice Fitzpatrick, has moved from Islandmagee, Co. Antrim, to Falcarragh, Co Donegal. They had been attempting for many years to come to a planning agreement with the local council over the change of use of the building from a part time to a full time educational establishment: the centre now awards M.A. degrees in Creative Writing from Lancaster University. They had also suffered badly from the Troubles, and had a large number of cancellations last summer due to the flare up of violence.

The new purpose built centre is a mile outside Falcarragh in the Donegal Gaeltacht, and has obtained support from Udaras na Gaeltachta. It will now have more of a focus on writing in the Irish language, with Cathal O Searcaigh on board as poet in residence for the summer courses, which start on Saturday, and the coming academic year.
