Om Unit Presents: VA – Cosmology

With Cosmic Bridge, UK producer Om Unit (aka Jim Coles) is building a label in his own image. A veteran of jungle and hip-hop, he is now at the vanguard of bass, exploring the fertile territory between dubstep's dread-soaked 140bpm and the faster, busier workouts of jungle and footwork. This label showcase brings together scene veterans and a selection of Coles's young proteges. Nuff Music, credited to Om Unit and Moresounds, echoes Paul Woolford's Special Request project: clattering breaks and a menacing B-line leavened with a stately synth melody. The emphasis is on energy – Kromestar's monstrous V7STX and EAN's footwork/jungle hybrid I Bus' the Mic will rule dancefloors in the right context. But there's subtlety as well, and Boxcutter feat Star Fu's Active Transformation is typical of the Lurgan producer's psychedelic footwork mutations. omunit.com
