The last time Alessandro Bosetti performed at the Hugh Lane he delved into a range of languages he doesn’t understand, simply for their fascination as sound. Who knows what the two might come up with in a joint programme?
The Orchestra of St Cecilia under Proinnsías Ó Duinn resume their performance of the complete symphonies of Haydn at Newman University Church a couple of hours later on Sunday afternoon, when the works on offer are Symphonies 5, 41 and 76.
Belfast-born conductor Courtney Lewis has been making waves in the US, founding a chamber orchestra, the Discovery Ensemble, in Boston, conducting the St Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, where he is currently a Dudamel Fellow.
He’s back in Belfast this week to conduct the Ulster Orchestra in a lunchtime programme on Wednesday (Elgar, Weber and Kodály) followed by a subscription series programme the following Friday (Ravel's Tombeau de Couperin, Saint-Saëns’s First Cello Concerto with Daniel Müller-Schott, and Franck’s Symphony in D minor).
