Rathmines sale offers wide range of furniture

A busy week for auctions opens tomorrow with a house sale in Rathmines, Dublin being conducted by Town & Country at 2 p.m. The wide range of items on offer to bidders includes a George III corner bookcase and a tallboy chest of drawers, a set of eight Edwardian mahogany dining chairs, a Victorian mahogany bookcase, an Edwardian inlaid display cabinet, a Victorian walnut davenport and a Victorian pedestal sideboard. No estimates have been provided for any of these lots.

Bidders called to the bar in Kilkenny

Following the refurbishment of the well-known Kilkenny city public house, Langton's, Upper Court Manor Antiques in nearby Freshford is holding a special auction of bar furniture and other related items on Monday evening. Lots include glass shop cabinets and a mahogany bar back and counter, together with a large range of old chemist shop fittings of shelves, drawers and cabinets from another property. In addition, a number of fittings from two Georgian houses in Kilkenny will be on offer, including pine doors and window shutters and a fanlight. Then there is a matching pair of 14 feet entrance gates, a carved limestone date stone from 1848 and three metres of church brass railing.

Regency rosewood card tables may fetch £7,000

SO substantial is John Dunphy's next auction at Sixmilebridge, Co Clare, that the event has been spread over next Tuesday and Wednesday. A large number of lots is available, and among those of particular interest are a pair of Regency rosewood card tables (estimate £5,000-£7,000) and an Edwardian kidney-shaped writing desk (£1,500-£2,000).

A Victorian dining table is expected to sell for £2,000-£3,000, both an art nouveau inlaid display cabinet and a Victorian mahogany two-door bookcase have an estimate of £1,000-£1,500 and a 19th century longcase clock with painted arched dial is expected to sell for £1,200-£1,500.

Grandfather clock with brass dial for £2,000-plus

A georgian mahogany grandfather clock with a brass dial by George Walker of Dublin is expected to make about £2,000-£2,500 on Thursday when it comes up for sale at Herman & Wilkinson of Rathmines, Dublin. Both a Victorian mahogany extending table and a French-style maple and walnut writing table carry an estimate of £1,500-£1,800, a Victorian bookcase is expected to fetch £800-£1,200 and a set of six Victorian mahogany dining chairs are priced at £800-£1,000.

Among the more unusual lots is a collection of Irish Army silver and gold athletics medals, all awarded to the same officer. The collection has an estimate of £400-£500.
