Images of Irish linen industry for sale

AN interesting set of 18th-century engravings depicting the Irish linen industry by William Hincks is expected to fetch £3,000 to £5,000 at a Phillips sale of old master, decorative and modern prints in London on March 30th. The 12 unframed prints show the entire process of linen production and include scenes of spreading the flax to dry and weaving it into finished cloth.

`Ploughman' pound and other money of note

A Bank of Ireland "Ploughman" banknote dating from 1939 will be among a wide selection of Irish banknotes for sale at the Royal Marine Hotel antiques fair in Dun Laoghaire tomorrow. Considered among the most attractive of Irish banknotes produced this century, the notes are now extremely popular with collectors. A wider display of Irish banknotes will be on show at the Irish International Coin Fair, which opens this morning for two days at the Gresham Hotel, Dublin. Free valuations of notes, coins and medals will be carried out by a number of experts, including members of the Numismatic Society of Ireland and representatives of Dublin auctioneers Whyte's and Spink, the London auction firm.

`Irish Fairy Tales' among literature at RDS

A COPY of James Stephen's Irish Fairy Tales, illustrated by Rackham, goes on sale tomorrow at the National Book Fair in the RDS. Antiquarian booksellers from all over Ireland will be among the 30 exhibitors showing a wide selection of books on Irish history and Irish literature, as well as newspapers, posters and other printed ephemera.
