A report headed “Marriage registrars discover illegal August couples” in Tuesday’s editions quoted Ms Mary Heaslip as saying that because the courts did not sit during the summer wedding season, couples married this month would be unable to obtain an exemption from the three month notice of marriage requirement. We are advised that a judge of the High Court is available during August and September to consider various applications. Two applications under the Family Law Act 1995 have been submitted and dealt with since August 1st.
