Christmas light hero has the kids beaming

WHEN YOU used to be a special effects guy at Disney Imagineering, you’re not going to settle for the standard Christmas lights on the outside of your house. Ric Turner decided to hook the 21,000-odd lights on his suburban LA home to a Wii games console and allow the local kids play a massive game of Guitar Hero on the front of his house. This Cnet article has all the details including video footage.

Jason Calacanis on Facebook

Any article that begins “Facebook proved again this week that they are either the most unethical or clueless internet company in the world” has to be worth reading. But when it’s from Jason Calacanis, serial internet enterpreneur and loudmouth, you know it will be incendiary.

In this blog post he slams Facebook’s recent changes to its privacy policies and suggests it’s all a ploy to drive more traffic to the social network. Instructive reading.

A personalised Santa video

For a generation of children who have grown up taking the internet for granted what could be better than a personalised video from the man of the hour, Santa Claus. Answer some basic questions, such as the age of the child (or adult), where they live, whether they’ve been naughty or nice, and what they’d like for Christmas. You also upload an image which appears in the customised video, a link to which is emailed to the recipient. We can vouch that the results are pretty impressive when viewed by the under-10s.

Seth Godin’s e-Book for free

One of the complaints about e-books is that they aren’t any cheaper than the print version and there’s a smaller selectionlk;. High-profile blogger, social media expert and web entrepreneur Seth Godin aims to change that by providing his new tome, What Matters Now, as a free e-book. It features contributions from 70 “big thinkers” – ie luminaries of the tech and web world, who each share an idea worth considering as we head into the new year. Available in a variety of formats including PDF.
