German shares ended the day lower as the holiday spirit weighed on sentiment and the IBIS DAX closed the day down, despite a stronger dollar and firmer German bonds.
Electronic trade on the IBIS DAX closed the day at 2,492.63 points, down 13.34 points or 0.53 per cent.

French shares ended higher, after an easier start, ahead of today's public holiday, dealers said. A drop in Suez shares had depressed the index at the opening.
The bond and money markets and bullish domestic data in spired an afternoon rally in the CAC-index towards the 2,150 level but higher than expected US consumer confidence figures brought the share market down from its day highs.
