THE head of the US computer firm Texas Instruments, Mr Jerry Junkins (58), died yesterday of cardiac arrest during a flight to Germany to start a business trip, the company announced.

A spokesman said Mr Junkins had appeared in excellent health and had never spoken of heart problems. Mr Junkins joined Texas Instruments in 1959 and became president and chief executive officer in 1985 and chairman in 1988.
