Sony Bloggie

Solid-state high-definition cameras are gaining in popularity due to their sheer convenience, so Sony has decided it’s a good time to unleash a couple of new models.

The CM5 is lightweight – a must for portable items in this vein. You can shoot still images at a resolution of five megapixels, or capture full high-definition MP4 video.

It also has face-detection and technology such as SteadyShot image stabilisation to cut camera shake.

The CM5 comes with a 5x optical zoom lens, flip-out LCD screen and a HDMI connector for hooking the camera up to your HD TV. All the software you need is embedded on the camera, so you can use it even when you’re away from your own PC.

Jaybird SB1 Sportsband, $89

Headphones may not always be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of technology your friends would envy, but Jaybird’s product line might make you change your thinking.

The company’s SB1 Sportsband headphones are Bluetooth enabled, so no wires to tangle yourself up in. They not only work with your MP3 player, but with your mobile phone too.

An integrated microphone delivers crisp sound and, as an added bonus, you can also use them with Skype.

The design is a little out of the ordinary. Instead of bulky headphones that draw attention to you, the Sportsband’s design is streamlined and sleek, with all the buttons for controlling volume, music and calls built in.

You will get about eight hours of use with a single charge.

The headphones are no slouch when it comes to reproducing stunning audio either and, to top it off, they have a lifetime warranty.

Aiptek Mobile Cinema D10, €182

The Aiptek Mobile Cinema D10 is certainly not the sleekest projector on the market.

It looks more like it has been dragged out of a child’s toy box than off the home cinema shelf.

However, if you don’t have an endless pot of cash to blow on high-tech audiovisual gear, this could be a good alternative to pricier projectors.

The LED projector is simple enough to use and can project an image up to 50 inches in size on your wall. It has an integrated DVD player and stereo speakers.

If you are a karaoke fan, you’ll be pleased to know you can even plug a microphone into it and turn it into a karaoke station.

As budget projectors go, it’s not a bad machine. Plus if you do have young children, chances are you won’t find it as painful when they inevitably mash banana or biscuit into it.
