Tech Tools: Samsung gets in Gear for VR

What are you to do if you don't have several hundred euro to drop on the latest virtual reality headset? If you are a Samsung phone owner, the Gear VR may be what you need.

The headset uses Oculus technology, but instead of a computer, it uses your smartphone.

This version of the Gear VR fits a number of different phones. The Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 4 and S6 Edge+ are all compatible – it’s just a matter of adjusting the cradle to fit the handset. Once the phone is snapped in, the headset walks you through the set-up of the device, including downloading apps from the dedicated store.

The consumer version of the headset also has a redesigned touchpad on the side of the Gear VR, making it easier to find and use correctly. Verdict: A good introduction to VR.
