Gateway, the personal computer (PC) manufacturer, which employs 1,600 people at its European headquarters in Dublin, reported an increase of 8 per cent in after-tax profits of $60.7 million for the three months ended June 30th. But the company stated that the buoyant results were offset by a decrease of 22 per cent in European turnover, due partly to a decline in unit shipments. The company's turnover globally increased to $1.6 billion, a rise of 16 per cent on 1997.
