SAN FRANCISCO:SOME NATIONALITIES are more cavalier than others in their attitude towards using work computers for private activities, according to a new survey taken in 10 countries for Cisco.

It turns out the Chinese are most likely to blog on company time, while Australians are most likely to visit their online bank. Brazilians are most likely to share company information with their friends, while Indians are the most likely to be updating Facebook profiles.

The British - closely followed by the French - who are placing the online bets in largest numbers. Everyone but the Japanese is instant messaging.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Americans, despite having been first online in any numbers, do not rank first for any of the activities on company time. Perhaps that just reflects stricter corporate policies.

The most popular activity is sending and receiving private e-mail on private accounts on company time (78 per cent), while 42 per cent use work accounts for this.
