UPC IRELAND’S major marketing push to win new television and broadband customers has seen it ink a deal with retailers Currys and PC World, both owned by British group DSG.

Customers signing up to UPC’s triple play of TV, broadband and telephone services will now get a €250 voucher to spend in 29 Currys and PC World stores, who will presumably try to sell you the latest 3D/HD mega-sized flatscreen plasma.

It should spice up the competition between UPC and Sky for TV subscribers.

ACCOUNTS JUST filed for airport ground handling group Aviance show its turnover in Ireland declined in 2009 to £5.6 million from £6.2 million a year earlier, reflecting the downturn in the travel market here.

No profit or loss figure is provided in the accounts but Aviance UK Ltd made a loss of £34.7 million.

The company closed its Dublin operation last August, with the loss of 59 jobs.

Another 41 transferred to Service Air, another ground handling operator based at Dublin airport.

Staff here had taken 20 per cent pay cut, a reduction in working hours but Aviance quit the country.
