Intel Corporation has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Basis Communications Corporation, a privately held technology company with a subsidiary operation employing 20 people in Shannon, Co Clare.

The deal, valued at $450 million (€463.3 million) in cash and assumed options, will see Intel incorporate Basis's network processor technology into its Internet Exchange architecture.
