Dot.com shake-out to worsen

The shake-out among many once-promising US dot.coms could take a bleaker turn

The shake-out among many once-promising US dot.coms could take a bleaker turn. Nearly 100 such companies have seen their stock prices collapse throughout much of the year. They now face being delisted from the Nasdaq stock market if they remain at their current low levels. Of the companies that have held initial public offerings on the Nasdaq since 1995, 99 were trading at or below $1 on October 31st, according to a survey by Thomson Financial/Securities Data.

Despite of this year's plunging technology share values, there has yet to be a wave of Nasdaq delistings. If the trend continues, however, it may not be long before the Nasdaq delistings begin to build.
