Compaq reached an agreement this week to buy online retailer Shopping.com in a stock-for-cash deal valued at $220 million. Compaq will use the new site to attract traffic generated by its AltaVista Internet guide. Using Shopping.com's transaction capabilities, AltaVista will be able to complete e-commerce transactions, according to a Compaq statement.
