MEDICAL DEVICES company Boston Scientific is to invest €50 million in strategic research and development at its Galway facility.
Describing it as a major investment and an integral part of its strategic plans, the company said it would broaden significantly the capabilities of the research and development team responsible for new product development, which directly employs over 200 people in Galway, as well as underpinning current RD and manufacturing at the Galway facility.
"The Galway RD team have an impressive talent base and a strong track record of delivering innovation. We look forward to their continuing contributions," said Boston Scientific chief executive Jim Tobin.
Boston Scientific was established in Galway in 1994 and is the largest manufacturing site within the corporation, with more than 3,000 people employed in the RD and manufacture of cardiology and peripheral vascular products such as stents and catheters.
The €50 million investment is one of the most significant research and development investments supported by IDA Ireland, according to the State agency.
