Under the Protection of Young Person's (Employment) Act 1996, children aged 16 and 17 may only work until 10 p.m. during holidays and on weekend nights where the young person has no school the next day. A young person may in exceptional circumstances and only with the approval of the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, work until 11 p.m. No such exception has been made to date according to the department.
